2022.. Ontdekking van de oorvleugelvogel - 2022.. Discovery of the earwingbird

'Zo, eindelijk weer verder met het verhaal van Steampunky in de Magische Tuin.

Wanneer Streampunky door de deur is, ziet hij in een totaal andere wereld.
Gelijk gefascineerd naar de grote plant recht voor hem. Zoiets moois en groots had hij nog nooit gezien. De eikelknotter verwelkomde Steampunky in de Magische Tuin. 'Kom verder en blijf bij mij in de buurt'. Samen liepen ze naar de grote bloem. 

'Dit is een 'Smelly Ochedil'. Je hebt geluk dat je hem in bloei ziet, want dat gebeurt slechts 2x per jaar.
Steampunky keek om zich heen en zag nog meer bijzondere planten. 'Waren al die planten hier in deze tuin', vroeg Steampunky. 'Nee, ik zal je vertellen hoe die hier zijn gekomen.
Wij, de eikelknotters, woonden in een gebied met planten die we allemaal wel kenden. Met één uitzondering; de 'Smelly Ochedil', met zijn verrukkelijke geur. Heel, maar dan ook heel lang geleden, vloog er een vreemde vogel, geregeld boven deze bloem. Aan zijn uiterlijk kon je zien dat hij hier niet thuis hoorde'.

Oorvleugel vogel

'Wat voor vogel was het, een papegaai?', vroeg Steampunky. 'Nee, het is een oorvleugelvogel'. Bij het woord oorvleugelvogel moest Gumpie heel hard lachen.
'Hou op, die bestaan helemaal niet!' 'Gumpie, bestonden, want ze zijn helaas uitgestorven'. 

'Mijn voorouders hebben een schets gemaakt en aan de hand van de verhalen, heb ik de vogel een kleur gegeven'.
'Oorvleugels? Dus die vleugels zitten aan zijn oren vast?' 'Hier op deze tekening zie je duidelijk waar de vleugels zitten.... aan de oren'. 'Wat wilde die vogel'.

Zaad van de Smelly Orchodill bloem

'Het zaad van de bloem 'Smelly Ochedil'. 'En dat heeft hij gekregen?' 'Steampunky, dat verliep heel anders, maar dat hoor je volgende week'. 'Waarom een weekje wachten, jij kent het verhaal toch!' 

'Gumpie, je hebt gelijk, maar ik moet de bijpassende tekening nog maken.

'So, finally on with the story of Steampunky. In the Magic Garden.
When Streampunky is through the door, he sees into a totally different world.

Steampunky looked around and saw even more unusual plants. "Were all those plants here in this garden?"Steampunky asked. 'No, I'll tell you how they got here.
We, the acornknotters, lived in an area with plants that we were all familiar with. With one exception; the 'Smelly Ochedil', with its delightful fragrance.
A very, very long time ago, a strange bird flew regularly above this flower. You could tell by his appearance that he didn't belong here.'
"What kind of bird was it, a parrot?"Steampunky asked. "No, it's an ear-wing bird." Gumpie laughed really hard at the word 'ear-wing bird'.
'Stop, they don't exist at all!' 'Gumpie, existed, because they are unfortunately extinct'.
'My ancestors made a sketch and based on the stories, I gave the bird a color'.
'Ear wings? So those wings are attached to his ears?' 'Here in this drawing you can clearly see where the wings are... on the ears'. "What did that bird want?"
'The seed of the flower 'Smelly Ochedil'. "And that's what he got?"'Steampunky, that went very differently, but you'll hear about that next week'.
"Why waiting a week, you know the story anyway!" “Gumpie, you're right, but I've yet to make the matching drawing.

Oliebollen eten - eating fried doughnut balls

Gezellig eten en sporten met de oliebol
Mijn tekenvriend Gumpie is al enthousiast bezig met de oliebol. Nadat hij de kabouter zijn jas had dichtgeknoopt, was het tijd om te sporten. 

Gumpie pakt een oliebol en tilt die boven zijn punthoofd.

'Gumpie, de volgorde is niet goed. Eerst oliebollen eten en daarna kun je gewichtheffen'.

'Heb je de tekening, die eigenlijk voor de kerstkaart van 2022 was, nog afgemaakt?'
'Gumpie, zie hier het resultaat!'

Dit was de laatste blog voor 2021 en in 2022 gaan we verder met mijn verhalen.
Iedereen een gezond, optimisch en creatief 2022.

My drawing friend Gumpie is already enthusiastically working on the donuts. After buttoning the leprechaun's coat, it was time to exercise. Gumpie takes an oliebol and lifts it above his pointed head.

Gumpie protesteert tegen deze blog, waarom? - Gumpie was protesting with a sign, why?

 'Gumpie, waarom liep je met een protestbord?

'Je zou verder gaan met het Steampunky verhaal. Ik wil graag weten welke plantensoorten in die tuin zouden komen. Maar je hebt hele andere dingen gedaan!'
'Sorry Gumpie, ik zal het je uitleggen. Voor mijn schoonzoon heb ik een ijsvogel geschilderd op een houten blok.

Traditioneel maken wij al 40 jaar een eigen kerstkaart voor familie en kennissen. De tijd gaat dringen. De vos was voor mij een inspiratiebron voor de kerstkaart 2022. Halverwege zag mijn vrouw de tekening.... 'weer een eekhoorn!'
Totaal vergeten dat we vorig jaar een kerstkaart ook een vos getekend hadden.


Mijn vrouw kwam met een briljant idee met een bijpassende tekst. Dus zijn we opnieuw gaan tekenen. Gumpie, met de feestdagen in zicht...... gaan we in januari verder met Steampunky.
Zodra die kaart geprint is zal ik die op deze blog plaatsen.

“Sorry Gumpie, I'll explain. For my son-in-law I painted a kingfisher on a wooden block.

Traditionally, we have been making our own Christmas card for family and acquaintances for 40 years. Time is running out. The fox was a source of inspiration for me for the Christmas card 2022. Halfway through, my wife saw the drawing.... 'a squirrel again!'
Totally forgot that last year we also drew a fox for a Christmas card.

My wife came up with a brilliant idea with a matching text. So we started drawing again. Gumpie, with the holidays in sight...... we will continue with Steampunky in January.
Once that card is printed I will post it on this blog.

Ideeën over de magische tuin, Deel 2 • Ideas about the Magic Garden, Part 2

Komende weken geen illustraties. De voorbereidingen en schetsen plaats ik - en met hulp van Gumpie - wel op mijn blog.

Nadat er een schets van de 'Smelly Ochedil’ was gemaakt, nu de volgende vraag.
Hoe zijn de vreemde planten in de magische tuin gekomen.
Gumpie; 'dat gaat de eikelknotter aan Steampunky vertellen. Het moet een soort legende zijn met een gekke vogel. Die behoort tot de familie van de orenvleugels'. 'Heeft hij geen normale vleugels?' 'Nee, de vleugels zitten op de plaats van de oren. Als hij vliegt kan hij geluiden van boven en beneden veel beter horen'.
'Ik heb een voorstelling van een vogel, hieronder, op papier getekend. Hij heeft tijdelijk de naam 'Wihopper' gekregen. 

Met een box onder zijn nek 'hopt' hij van de ene naar de andere plek. Want hij verzamelt zaden van bijzondere zaden. Zo ziet hij de 'Smelly Ochedil’ en wil hij ook daarvan zaad hebben. Als hij bij die bloem is, ziet de eikelknotter een prachtige box om zijn nek hangen. Die wil hij graag hebben. De vogel wil die niet afgeven, hij wil alleen het zaad.

En dan bedenkt de eikelknotter een plan'.
'Ik luister en ga verder met je verhaal!' 'Gumpie, daar moet ik nog over nadenken. Die box wil ik tekenen, want daarmee eindigt het verhaal over het ontstaan van al die soorten planten.
'Gumpie, volgende keer gaan we de soorten planten bedenken, die in deze tuin staan. Met hun gekke eigenschappen. Bedenk jij alvast bijzondere soorten paddestoelen.
'Leuk idee, ik ga me helemaal uitleven.
(in januari worden deze schetsen in kleur uitgewerkt met een verhaal erbij.)

No illustrations for the next few weeks. I will post the preparations and sketches - and with the help of Gumpie - on my blog.

After a sketch of the 'Smelly Ochedil' was made, now the next question.
How did the strange plants get into the magic garden.
Gumpie; 'That's what the eikelknotter is going to tell Steampunky. It must be some kind of legend with a crazy bird. It belongs to the ear-wing family. "Doesn't he have normal wings?" 'No, the wings are in the place of the ears. When he flies he can hear sounds from above and below much better'.
'I have drawn a sketch of a bird, above, on paper. He has temporarily been given the name 'Wihopper'.
With a box under his neck he 'hops' from one place to another. Because he collects seeds from special seeds. For example, he sees the 'Smelly Ochedil' and wants to have seed from it too. When he is near that flower, the eikelknotter sees a beautiful box hanging around his neck. He would like to have that. The bird doesn't want to release it, it just wants the seed.
And then the acorn knitter comes up with a plan."
"I'll listen and move on with your story!" 'Gumpie, I'll have to think about that. I want to draw that box, because that's how the story about the origin of all those types of plants ends.
'Gumpie, next time we're going to think of the kinds of plants that grow in this garden. With their crazy features. Think of special types of mushrooms.
'Nice idea, I'm going to have fun.
