Puzzelen met Gumpie en de vis-haai vordert - Puzzling with Gumpie and the fish-shark is progressing

Met bewondering kijkt Gumpie naar het resultaat van de vis in klei. 'Jij hebt mijn idee goed begrepen; een klei object op een tekening geplakt'. Daar was ik zelf ook heel tevreden over. Komende dagen ga ik deze vis afschilderen. Omdat ik niet echt een fan ben van acryl heb ik een proefstukje gemaakt om te kijken wat aquarelverf op klei doet.

Gumpie kijkt naar die stukjes.

Daarvan heb ik gelijk er een puzzel van gemaakt. Het lukt Gumpie met moeite om er een vierkant van te maken.

Aquarelverf op zelfdrogende klei

Dit stukje met JOVI klei gemaakt. Die met aquarelverf beschilderd. Het effect is totaal anders dan met Acryl. Het is veel transparanter en donkere kleuren verdwijnen na droging. Het is snel droog! Zeker te gebruiken wanneer het een onderwerp is met tere kleuren. De structuur van klei is meer zichtbaarder dan met acryl.

Hierna zal ik het een vernislaagje geven.

Gumpie kijkt naar het vierkantje. 'Jij zegt dat je deze 4 dezelfde stukjes zo kunt plaatsen dat het een DRIEHOEK wordt?'

'Jazeker, ga maar oefenen. Volgende keer laat ik je de oplossing zien. Dan schrikt Gumpie; 'wat doe je met die vreselijke gevaarlijke vishaak?'

Daar ga ik volgende keer iets leuks mee doen. Met deze haak ga ik niet vissen.... het wordt een onderdeel bij de volgende vis tablet'.

'En weer met een illustratie waar die vis op wordt geplakt?' 'Absoluut Gumpie!'

The fish-shark is progressing

Gumpie looks with admiration at the result of the fish in clay. 'You’ve understood my idea well; a clay object stuck on a drawing'. I was very satisfied with that myself. I will be painting this fish in the coming days. Because I'm not really a fan of acrylic, I made a test piece to see what watercolor paint does on clay.

Gumpie looks at those pieces.

I immediately turned it into a puzzle. Gumpie has difficulty making it into a square.

This piece was made with JOVI clay. The one painted with watercolor paint. The effect is completely different than with acrylic. It is much more transparent and dark colors disappear after drying. It dries quickly! Definitely use it when it is a subject with delicate colors. The structure of clay is more visible than with acrylic.

After this I will give it a coat of varnish.

Gumpie looks at the square. "You're saying that you can place these 4 identical pieces in such a way that it becomes a TRIANGLE?"

'Sure, go and practice. Next time I'll show you the solution. Then Gumpie is shocked; 'what are you doing with that terribly dangerous fishing hook?'

I'll do something fun with that next time. I will not be fishing with this hook.... it will be part of the next fishing tablet.

'And again with an illustration on which the fish is pasted?' 'Absolutely Gumpie!'

A geweldig idee van Gumpie.. maak een vis-haai - A great idea of Gumpie.. making a fish-jaw

'Gumpie, het was een 'klei week, ik heb de smaak te pakken. En... ervaring opgedaan wat de mogelijkheden zijn. Werken met luchtdrogende klei is ideaal voor in huis te werken. 

Na de octopus heb ik een zeester gemaakt. Toen die droog was, voorzichtig glad geschuurd en geschilderd met acryl verf. Je weet ik ben geen fan van die verf. Zie hier het resultaat.

'Niet gek voor een 'amateur'. 'Dank je, Gumpie. De vraag van mij... wat nu? Gumpie die mijn vraag begreep dacht even na. 'Ik heb een goed idee! Ga verder met het thema 'Vissen'. Maak een humorische vis die op karton geplakt kan worden. De illustratie stem je af op het gemaakte 'klei vis'.

Bij het zien van Gumpie's schets, moest ik lachen.

'Nou, wat vind je van deze vis-haai? Bedenk er maar een Latijnse naam voor'. De schets van Gumpie, was voor mij gelijk een inspiratiebron om hiermee verder te werken.

Afgelopen week heb ik de vis in klei gemaakt. Nu moet hij heel goed drogen om daarna met fijn schuurpapier de kleine oneffenheden weg te werken.

Volgende week ga ik hiermee aan de slag. Gumpie pakt een stuk papier en maakt een schets. 'Dit kan je volgende vis worden; een echte vrouwelijke vis met een oorbel aan haar vin bij de kieuwen. Eventueel een ketting, mooie werkbrouwen, vrouwelijk lippen....'

Na het zien van zijn schets werd ik echt enthousiast. 'Dank Gumpie, we gaan aan de slag'.

Last week I made the fish in clay. Now it must dry very well and then remove the small imperfections with fine sandpaper.

I'll be working on this next week. Gumpie takes a piece of paper and makes a sketch. 'This could be your next fish; a real female fish with an earring on her fin near the gills. Possibly a necklace, beautiful work brewing, feminine lips...'

After seeing his sketch I got really excited. 'Thanks Gumpie, we'll get started'.

De creativiteit van een octopus - The creativity of the octopus.

Gumpie kijkt naar de afbeelding van de vis. 'Niet slecht voor een beginneling. En nu nog meer vissen?' 'Ja, er komt een vervolg van vissen. We gaan eerst anders maken; een octopus'. 

'Waarom dat?'

'Er zijn zo ontzettende veel vissen gecreëerd in klei, stof, of in hout. Ik mis toch het element 'iets bijzonders' bij deze vissen. De ondergrond die ik heb gemaakt is te druk in combinatie met de vis. Daar moet ik andere oplossing voor zien te vinden'.

'Waarom heb je een octopus gemaakt?'

'De vis was vlak en nu eens kijken hoe het is om een voorwerp te maken. Je moet eerst met klei werken om te zien wat de mogelijkheden zijn. Daarnaast welke tools zijn hiervoor nodig. 'Niet gek voor amateur, hij lijkt er wel op'.

Gumpie kijkt naar het tablet met de vis erop. 'Veel te druk, de vis komt er niet goed uit'. Daar had Gumpie een punt. Maar wat nu.

Na de vis heb ik een octopus gemaakt, om het verschil te voelen van vlak naar een 3D model. Als die uitgehard is ga ik die voorzichtig glad schuren en verven.

Gumpie kijkt me aan; 'ik heb een geweldig idee voor jou!'

'Ik zie die octopus met een penseel, schilder op stuk karton een passende rustige achtergrond. Daar plak je de vis op. En dat brengt mij op veel ideeën'.

'Gumpie.... briljant. Ik ga de octopus zijn arm vervangen, zodanig dat hij de penseel vasthoudt'.

'Ik ben benieuwd wat Gumpie voor mij heeft bedacht!'

Gumpie looks at me; 'I have a great idea for you!'

'I see that octopus with a brush, paint a suitably calm background on a piece of cardboard. You stick the fish on that. And that gives me a lot of ideas.'

'Gumpie.... brilliant. I'm going to replace the octopus' arm so that it holds the brush.' 

'I'm curious what Gumpie has come up with for me!'

Mijn nieuwe uitdaging... werken met klei - My new challenge... working with clay.

Waarom ga je jouw verhaal van Mr.P. niet afmaken? Ik wil na al die jaren hoe die reis tot een einde komt'. 'Klopt Gumpie, maar 's zomer buiten tekenen, in de zon en waarschijnlijk wordt het ook weer heel warm. Aquarel schilderen in de warmte niet prettig, water verdampt snel. Daarbij komt dat ik iets wil maken'.

'Waarom de keuze; klei?'

'Ik wil iets tastbaars maken en delen beschilderen'. 'Oh, je zou niet meer schilderen!'

'Slimmerd!' 'Ik ben geen fan van acrylverf, het droogt te snel voor mijn nauwkeurige illustraties. Op klei onderwerpen heb ik meer vrijheid'.

'En wat ga je dan allemaal maken?'

'Daar moest ik over nadenken. Uiteindelijk gekozen om een serie te maken.

De basis is een ondergrond met een structuur in het wit, eventueel met zachte kleur accenten.

Daar boven komt een afbeelding in 3D, die geheel in kleur wordt gemaakt. Als thema heb ik 'vissen' gekozen. Hiernaast de schets plaatsen. 

Ik heb gekozen voor luchthardende modelleer klei. Eerst ga ik proefstukjes maken om te kijken wat de mogelijkheden zijn. Onderstaand zie mijn schets is mijn basis. 

Wanneer de vis goed gedroogd is, kan ik met waterproef schuurpapier de oneffenheden verwijderen. Dan kan ik pas de vis beschilderen. Dus maak ik nu het palet waar de vis op komt met een structuur.

Vooraf een ruwe schets gemaakt. Dit is echt heel leuk en makkelijk te maken. Losse elementen met water 'opplakken'. Om in stijl met de vis te blijven, heb ik voor rondjes en slierten gekozen. Ook als 'luchtbelletjes' uit zijn mond. Het middelste gedeelte bewerkt met een ruwe borstel.

Dit tablet zal ik gebruiken als basis voor een volgend onderwerp. Maar de afmetingen en structuren aanpassen aan het onderwerp.

'I had to think about that. Ultimately decided to make a series.

The basis is a surface with a structure in white, possibly with soft color accents.

Above this is an image in 3D, which is made entirely in color. I chose 'fishing' as the theme.

I chose air-hardening modeling clay. Above left you can see the fish I made. This is the result with the help of various tools. This needs to dry for a few days before I paint this fish. In a few days I will make the tablet that the fish will be on.

When the fish has dried properly, I can remove the imperfections with waterproof sandpaper. Only then can I paint the fish. So I now make the palette that the fish will be on with a structure.

Made a rough sketch in advance. This is really fun and easy to make. 'Paste' loose elements with water. To stay in style with the fish, I opted for rounds and strings. Also like 'air bubbles' coming out of his mouth. The middle part worked with a rough brush.

Deel 4 Spectaculaire opening van het slot van het Drakenboek - Spectacular opening of the conclusion of the Dragon Book

Hoe het slot van het boek open ging.

'Een week wachten is héél lang, nou vertelt hoe het boek open kon. De eekhoorn glimlacht naar Gumpie. 'Dankzij de oplettendheid van onze familie zijn wij daar achter gekomen.

Deze piraten kwamen uit Madagaskar, een eiland ten oosten van Afrika. De piraten hielden de stokstaartjes aan boord als huisdieren’. Ze zijn brutaal en onderling zeer sociaal. Gumpie had geen idee wat het voor dieren waren. ‘Zijn ze gevaarlijk en groot?’

‘Nee niet gevaarlijk, ze passen zeker bij de piraten. Hun lange pluimstaart heeft veertien witte ringen, afgewisseld met zwarte ringen. De ogen zijn goudgeel naar oranje van kleur. Rondom hun ogen hebben ze een zwarte rand, alsof een dikke bril dragen. Met hun zwarte snuit lijken ze op piraten.

Maar nu komt het.....

De piraten zagen het boek niet, de stokstaartjes WEL. Dat vonden zij interessant. Wat ze ook probeerden... ze konden het niet open krijgen. Dat hebben wij eekhoorns gezien.

Toen gebeurde er iets vreemds, een maki ging op het boek zitten. Onrustig schuifelde er een met zijn kont over het boek en plotseling sprong hij er van af. Hij keek nog eens naar het boek; die was warm geworden. Even later gingen ze er van door. Wij hebben alles gezien'.

'Was dat nu zo bijzonder?' 'Ja Gumpie, nu wisten waarom ze er zo verschrikt vandoor gingen!' De eekhoorn wachtte en keek naar Gumpie. 'Schiet op, hoe dan?'

'Wij zijn gaan wrijven met onze staart over het boek. Er gebeurde niets, maar toen we over het ijzeren slot wreven, werd het warm. We zagen dat de vlam uit de drakenbek ging gloeien.

Met het puntje van onze staart wreven we alleen over de kop van de draak. Die werd zo heet, dat onze eigen staart bijna in brand vloog. De vlam van de draak werd helemaal oranje en toen hoorden we 2 x klik. Het slot ging open. Zo konden we het boek bekijken!'

Gumpie was sprakeloos van dit verhaal. 'We nemen even pauze en dan zal ik je eindelijk het verhaal van de 'Drakenlegende' vertellen.

How the lock of the book opened.

'A week's wait is a very long time, but that explains how the book was opened. The squirrel smiles at Gumpie. 'Thanks to the attentiveness of our family, we discovered this.

These pirates came from Madagascar, an island east of Africa. The pirates kept the meerkats on board as pets. They are cheeky and very social with each other. Gumpie had no idea what kind of animals they were. “Are they dangerous and big?”

'No, not dangerous, they certainly fit in with the pirates. Their long bushy tail has fourteen white rings, alternating with black rings. The eyes are golden yellow to orange in color. They have a black rim around their eyes, as if wearing thick glasses. With their black snouts they look like pirates.

But now it comes...

The pirates didn't see the book, but the meerkats DID. They found that interesting. No matter what they tried... they couldn't open it. We've seen that with squirrels.

Then something strange happened, a lemur sat on the book. One restlessly shuffled his butt over the book and suddenly jumped off. He looked at the book again; it had become warm. A little while later they took off. We've seen everything."

'Was that so special?' "Yes Gumpie, now we know why they ran off in such a frightened manner!" The squirrel waited and looked at Gumpie. “Hurry up, how?”

'We started rubbing our tails on the book. Nothing happened, but when we rubbed the iron lock it got warm. We saw the flame from the dragon's mouth started glowing.

We only rubbed the dragon's head with the tip of our tail. It got so hot that our own tail almost caught fire. The dragon's flame turned completely orange and then we heard a double click. The lock opened. So we could get the book to look at!'

Gumpie was speechless by this story. "We'll take a break and then I'll finally tell you the story of the 'Dragon Legend.'
