De aarde is plat en niet rond - The earth is flat and not round

Komende blogs worden uitgebreider, met meer informatie. Gumpie wil weten wat mijn inspiratiebron is geweest voor het verhaal. Daarom zet ik onderaan het verhaal de link naar de blog van Gumpie. 

Hier vertelt ik wat mijn inspiratie is geweest voor het onderwerp.

Waar waren we gebleven voor de zomerstop.

'Pufmuis vertelt dat hij een ballonvaart gaat maken. Waarom eigenlijk?'

'Mijn neef heeft eens gevlogen in een lucifersdoosje. (Zie vorige blog) Hij zag de meeuwen vliegen en wilde dat ook zo graag. Toen hij hoog in de lucht was, zag hij dat de horizon geen rechte lijn was. De vogels hebben hem vertelt dat de aarde een hele grote bol was!
Dat kon Pufmuis niet geloven, hij wil het met eigen ogen zien. Daarom gaat hij met een ballon de lucht in. Punky vertelt dat het waar is; de aarde is een grote bol.
Pufmuis pakt een stuk papier en tekent een wereldbol. Hij legt uit dat het onmogelijk is dat de aarde een bol is, hij is plat.

'Zal het je uitleggen'. 'Als het hier regent, dan zou al het water van boven naar beneden vallen. Bij een platte aarde gebeurd het niet.

Pufmuis omschrijft een 'platte aarde.
Als Punky ook nog vertelt dat de aarde rond draait, schiet hij in de lach. 'Dan kan geen levend wezen hier nog leven. Bomen, planten die zitten wel vast, maar dieren vallen er vanaf. Dan hang ik straks als hij gaat draaien aan een boom om er niet af te vallen!'

'Dat is wel mogelijk, dat komt door de zwaartekracht'.
Pufmuis kijkt met pretoogjes naar Punky. 'En wat is zwaartekracht?'
Tja, daar heeft Punky geen antwoord op, hij weet het zelf ook niet. 
'Ik ga met mijn ballon omhoog, en dan zal ik met eigen ogen zien dat de aarde 'plat' is.

'Waarom heb je dit onderwerp gekozen en wat was jouw inspiratiebron?

Op deze blog wil ik het alleen hebben over het verhaal van Steampunky.

Where are we for the summer break.

Gumpie, 'Pufmouse says he's going on a balloon ride. Why actually?'
“His cousin once flew in a matchbox. (See previous blog) He saw the seagulls flying and wanted so badly. When he was high in the sky, he saw that the horizon was not a straight line. The birds told him that the earth was a very large sphere!
Puffmuis couldn't believe that, he wants to see it with his own eyes. That's why he takes to the air with a balloon. Punky says it's true; the earth is a big sphere.
Puffmouse takes a piece of paper and draws a globe. He explains that it is impossible for the earth to be a sphere, it is flat.
'Will explain to you; if it rains here, all the water would fall from the top down. It doesn't happen on a flat Earth.
Puffmouse describes a 'flat earth.
When Punky also mentions that the earth revolves, he laughs. 'Then no living being can live here. Trees, plants that are stuck, but animals fall off. Then I'll hang from a tree when it starts to turn so as not to fall off!'
'That is possible, it is due to gravity'.
Puffmouse looks at Punky with happy eyes. “And what is gravity?"
Well, Punky doesn't have an answer to that, he doesn't know either.
'I will go up with my balloon, and then I will see with my own eyes that the earth is 'flat'.

Gompie is terug van vakantie - Gumpie is back from holiday

Na een lange zomervakantie is Gumpie weer terug. Heerlijk, maar hij miste het strand. De Noordzee met zijn golven en gekrijs van de meeuwen.

Volgende week gaan Gumpie en ik weer van start met onze wekelijkse blog. Even niet met Mr.P&Sneezy (wordt later vervolgd) maar met Steampunky. Hij krijgt een stoomturbine en gaat op zoek naar de toeterbloem in de Magische tuin van Pufmuis

After a long summer vacation, Gumpie is back.  Great, but he missed the beach.  The North Sea with its waves and the screeching of the seagulls.

Next week Gumpie and I will start again with our weekly blog. Not with Mr.P&Sneezy (to be continued later), but with Steampunky. He gets a steam turbine and goes in search of the horn flower in the magical garden of Puffmouse

Mr.P.&Sneezy zijn met vakantie - Mr.P.&Sneezy are on holiday

Ons duo is tot medio juli met vakantie. Daarna gaan we weer hard verder met het corrigeren van reisverhaal. Als dat gereed is gaan we het uitgeven. Iedereen een hele fijn vakantie en tot later.

Waarom kozen zebra's voor zwarte strepen - Why did zebras choose for black stripes

 'Wat duurt een week soms lang als je moet wachten op het vervolg van vorige week. Nou, vertel me, wat moest muis in die bek van de dinosaurus?' 'Muis zag bij mijn kamer een prikbord met een skelet er op. Ik heb hem hier heel vaak zien kijken'.

Hij zag dat ik daar een aantal tekening had gemaakt. Die mocht hij ook bekijken.

Bij het zien van deze tekening werd muis heel enthousiast. Daar wilde hij meer over weten. In Leiden (Nederland) staat een natuurkundig museum, Naturalis.

 Naturalis Biodiversity Center is een onderzoeksinstituut en natuurhistorisch museum in de Zuid-Hollandse stad Leiden. Het Nederlands Centrum voor Biodiversiteit Naturalis is ontstaan uit een fusie tussen het Zoölogisch Museum Amsterdam, het Nationaal Herbarium Nederland en Natuurhistorisch Museum Naturalis.

Daar wilde hij graag naar toe. Dankzij de vindingrijkheid van "Kokkie de kokmeeuw" is hij daar naar toe gevlogen. Via het dakraam naar binnen gekropen en zo kwam hij gelijk bij de dinosaurus'. 

'En hoe ging het verder?' 'Daar was levensgevaarlijk voor hem!' Gompie lacht. 'Gevaarlijk, die dino was allang dood!'

'Klopt Gumpie, maar als je weet dat er dagelijks honderden bezoekers lopen en er roept iemand.. 'een muis! Daarom is muis met meeuw weer terug gegaan.

'Gumpie, we gaan weer verder met het corrigeren van het reisverhaal van de pelikaan en de slak'. 'Oh ja, jij gaat mij vertellen waarom zebra's zwarte strepen hebben gekozen!' 'Daar hadden de zebra's bewust over nagedacht'.

Strepen als camouflage

'Nou, dat klinkt niet erg logisch, ze leven in de Savanne. Dan is zwart een slechte kleur. Leeuwen, giraffen hebben daar beter over nagedacht!' 'Gumpie, hier komt hun filosofie....

Verwarring

Zwart-witte streepjes, die vallen toch enorm op in de graslanden en savannes van Afrika?

Sommige onderzoekers geloven van niet. De strepen van een zebra werken juist heel verwarrend

voor roofdieren. Als een leeuw een kudde zebra’s aanvalt, zetten ze het allemaal op een

sprinten. De leeuw raakt in de war van alle rennende strepen. Want waar is nou het begin en waar

het einde? Daardoor geeft hij de jacht sneller op. 

Zebrastrepen verjagen steekvliegen. Dazen zijn vervelende beestjes. Ze bijten paarden en ezels en zuigen hun bloed op. Dit kan zorgen voor infecties. Dat geldt niet voor de zebra, zeggen aanhangers van deze theorie.

Onderzoekers hebben ontdekt dat vliegen die zwart-witte strepen niet zo zien zitten. Een zebra heeft 

daardoor minder last van vervelende steekvliegen dan bijvoorbeeld een zwart paard. Handig!

Andere wetenschappers geloven namelijk dat de strepen helpen om koel te blijven. 

Zebra’s die in de koelere delen van Afrika leven, hebben minder duidelijke strepen dan de zebra’s die in de warme delen leven. Doordat de witte strepen met een andere snelheid opwarmen dan de zwarte strepen, zouden op het lichaam van de zebra kleine ‘briesjes’ ontstaan die warmte afvoeren. 

De strepen helpen dus om het lichaam op temperatuur te houden.

'Zeer goed over nagedacht', was het antwoord van Gumpie. 'Volgende week gaan we echt verder met het reisverhaal. 'Ja, waarom de giraffen voor zulke vreemde vlekken hebben gekozen'.

Gumpie, ik zag dat je het leuk vond om mee te gaan op fiets.

How long does a week sometimes take when you have to wait for last week's sequel. Well, tell me, what was mouse in the dinosaur's mouth?' Mouse saw a bulletin board near my room with a skeleton on it. I've seen him look here quite often'.

He saw that I had made a number of drawings there.  He also got to see it.

Mouse became very excited when he saw this drawing.  He wanted to know more about that.  In Leiden (the Netherlands) there is a physics museum, Naturalis.

Naturalis Biodiversity Center is a research institute and natural history museum in the South Holland city of Leiden.  The Netherlands Center for Biodiversity Naturalis was created from a merger between the Zoological Museum Amsterdam, the National Herbarium of the Netherlands and the Natural History Museum Naturalis.

He wanted to go there. Thanks to the ingenuity of "Kokkie the black-headed gull" he flew there. He crawled in through the skylight and that's how he came straight to the dinosaur'.

 "And how did it go?" 'It was life-threatening for him there!' Gompie laughs. 'Dangerous, that dinosaur was long dead!'

 'That's right Gumpie, but if you know that there are hundreds of visitors every day and someone yells.. 'a mouse! That's why mouse with seagull went back.

 "Gumpie, we're going to continue correcting the pelican and snail's travel story."  "Oh yes, you're going to tell me why zebras chose black stripes!" 'The zebras had consciously thought about that'.

 Stripes as camouflage

 'Well, that doesn't make much sense, they live in the Savannah. Then black is a bad color.  Lions, giraffes have thought better about that! '  'Gumpie, here comes their philosophy....

Confusion

Black and white stripes, don't they stand out in the grasslands and savannas of Africa?

Some researchers believe not.  The stripes of a zebra are actually very confusing for predators. When a lion attacks a herd of zebras, they set it all on one

sprint. The lion gets confused by all the running stripes. Because where is the beginning and where the end? As a result, he gives up the hunt faster.

Zebra stripes repel gadflies. Horseflies are annoying critters. They bite horses and donkeys and suck their blood. This can cause infections. This does not apply to the zebra, say supporters of this theory.

Researchers have found that flies don't like those black and white stripes. Has a zebra

therefore less bothered by annoying gadflies than, for example, a black horse. Useful!

Other scientists believe that the stripes help to stay cool.

Zebras living in the cooler parts of Africa have less distinct stripes than the zebras living in the warm parts. Because the white stripes heat up at a different rate than the black stripes, small 'breezes' would form on the zebra's body that dissipate heat.

The stripes thus help to keep the body at the right temperature.

 "Very well thought out," was Gumpie's answer.  'Next week we will really continue with the travel story.  'Yes, why the giraffes chose such strange spots'.

Dinosaurus breekt door de muur - Dinosaur breaks through the wall

Wanneer we verder willen gaan met mijn reisverhaal van de pelikaan en de slak, komt Gumpie. 'Jij zou me de illustratie laten zien van de dinosaurus. Je hebt het vorige week beloofd!' Het was even zoeken in mijn kast met meer dan 300 illustraties. In de la van Mus&Muis kwamen ze te voorschijn.

Gumpie zag de indrukwekkende kop met bovenop een muis. 'Waarom zit die muis daar?'

Deze illustraties behoren bij een heel ander verhaal, maar hieronder het vervolg!'

'Ik ben heel erg nieuwsgierig'. 'Gumpie ik beloof je dat ik dat véél later een keer zal vertellen. Maar nu gaan we verder met het reisverhaal van Mr.P&Sneezy. Waar waren we gebleven?'

'Loraine gaat ons nu vertellen hoe de dieren hun kleuren hebben gekregen'. 'ik luister', zei Gumpie.

'De viervoeters zijn door de chimpansees geschilderd'.

Bij het woord 'Chimpansee' moest Sneezy lachen. 'Gaan we naar sprookjes luisteren?'

Loraine ging gewoon verder. 'Onder leiding van opperchef Pigogh, kregen alle dieren een stalenboek te zien. Hierin stonden zowel kleuren als motieven als voorbeeld én de mogelijkheid om zelf combinaties te maken.

'Wat heeft hij daar in zijn oor', vroeg Repper. Loraine; 'Hij was herkenbaar aan zijn bijzondere oorbellen'. 

Voor je verder gaat Loraine, Hoe wisten dieren na al die tijd dat ze nu een kleur en een patroon konden kiezen'. ’Goeie vraag Sneezy’.

’Dat heeft Pigogh heel slim aangepakt. Hij heeft een kolibri als eerste heel mooi geschilderd, en die moest dienen als voorbeeld. Want de kenmerken van een kolibri zijn; geluk, schoonheid, snelheid, waakzaamheid, lichtheid, boodschapper.
’Een ideaal voorbeeld dus!’

'Loraine, vertel mij nu eens waarom hebben de zebra's voor strepen gekozen? Dat is toch geen schutkleur, want ze leven op de savannes, graslanden en bossen in het zuiden van Afrika!' 'Snezen, daar hebben ze bewust heel slim over nagedacht.

Maar dat vertel ik je volgende week.

Weer een week wachten en ik wil zo graag weten hoe ze de giraffen hebben geschilderd, zuchtte Gumpie.

Na dit verhaal had Gumpie nog een vraag. Vorige keer mee gegaan naar het strand op de fiets. Dat was levensgevaarlijk voor mij. Kun jij dit voor me aanpassen, zodat ik veilig mee kan.

Komende dagen maak ik een kokertje in de krat, zodat je veilig mee kunt.

When we want to continue my travelogue of the pelican and the snail, Gumpie comes. “You were going to show me the illustration of the dinosaur. You promised it last week! ' It took some searching in my cupboard with more than 300 illustrations. They appeared in the drawer of Sparrow & Mouse.

'I am very curious'. 'Gumpie, I promise I will tell you that much later.  But now we move on to Mr. P & Sneezy's travelogue. Where were we?'

 'Loraine is now going to tell us how the animals got their colors'. "I'm listening," said Gumpie.

 "The four-legged friends are painted by the chimpanzees."

 Sneezy laughed at the word "Chimpanzee." "Are we going to listen to fairytales?"

 Loraine just went on. Under the direction of Chief Chief Pigogh, all animals were shown a sample book. This contained both colors and motifs as an example and the possibility to make your own combinations.

 "What's he got in his ear?" Asked Repper.  Loraine;  'He was recognizable by his special earrings'.

Before you continue Loraine, How did animals know after all this time that they could now choose a color and a pattern '. "Good question Sneezy".

 "Pigogh has handled that very cleverly.  He was the first to paint a hummingbird very beautifully, and it was supposed to serve as an example.  For the characteristics of a hummingbird are;  happiness, beauty, speed, vigilance, lightness, messenger.

"An ideal example!"

 “Loraine, now tell me why did the zebras choose stripes? That is not a camouflage, because they live on the savannas, grasslands and forests in the south of Africa! '  'Snezen, they have deliberately thought very cleverly about that. But I'll tell you next week.

Wait another week and I really want to know how they painted the giraffes, Gumpie sighed.

After this story, Gumpie had one more question. Last time went to the beach by bike.  That was very dangerous for me. Can you adjust this for me, so that I can come along safely.

In the coming days I will make a tube in the crate, so that you can come along safely.
