Tijdens opmaken van het reisverhaal kwam Gumpie op mijn arm. 'Ik heb toch nog een vraag? 'Waselius vertelde dat de eekhoorn de vogels hebben beschilderd. In een modellenboek konden ze een verenpatroon kiezen, of een motief.

Deze zebravink wilde een ander patroon. Hij wil op de zebra’s lijken. Vervolgens liet de vink zijn schets laat zien aan de eekhoorn. Die weigerde dit zo te schilderen. 'Waarom?' 'Gumpie, dat is zijn eigen schuld en ik zal het je uitleggen. De eekhoorn zag in dat patroon een boevenvink!'
