Een pelikaan in het Vaticaan - a pelican in the Vatican

Wat was Sneezy opgelucht dat ze uit Venetië vertrokken. Het werd al snel druk van de vele toeristen. De aalscholver vloog nog een stukje mee om Mr.P. de goede richting te laten vliegen. Het was toch nog zo’n 400 km naar Rome. Tegen het eind van de middag bereikten ze het Vaticaan.
Mr.P. zette mus bij apostel Paulus af, die schrok van het beeld... ’houten zwaard?’ 
‘Waarom hout, geen idee, misschien konden ze dat niet van marmer maken. De betekenis van Paulus die een zwaard draagt; dat kan verwijzen naar de onthoofding waardoor hij de marteldood stierf, of naar ‘het zwaard van de Geest’, dat is het woord Gods’.
Sneezy luistert met open mond naar dit verhaal. ‘Wat een taalgebruik heb jij voor een pelikaan’. Nu weet ik waarom ze mij een ‘Passero Vaticano’ noemen’. Trots kijkt de mus naar Mr.P.
‘Ik neem een uitgebreid bad in één van die fonteinen op het plein. Daarna kom ik je weer ophalen’.

Sneezy was so relieved that they were leaving Venice. It quickly became crowded with many tourists. The cormorant flew a little more to Mr.P. flying in the right direction. It was still about 400 km to Rome. They reached the Vatican towards the end of the afternoon.
